Had a great day wandering around The Phillips Collection recently, watching the watchers and hiding in plain sight.
It’s remarkable how far digital technology has come in just a few short years. The image in this poster was shot at f2.8, ISO 1600 in available light. The most current processors in many cameras (consumer and professional) can double, triple and even quadruple that with amazing results. In the past, enlarging a photograph this much from a 35mm color negative shot at a similar film setting would have spelled disaster…noticeable grain, challenged color and poor detail in the shadows.
In the end the only thing that really counts for me is the freedom afforded by the quality of the results. Digital capture has indeed re-written the rules.
